Vermont is hands down one of the most kick-ass places to elope, with breathtaking mountains, waterfalls, cozy cabins, and charming small towns. Whether you’re chasing fall foliage, love a good hike, or simply want to immerse yourselves in the natural beauty of New England, this guide has you covered with the best Vermont elopement locations. Let’s dive into the top spots that will make your elopement day absolutely epic!
Stowe is the heart of Vermont when it comes to outdoor adventure and jaw-dropping landscapes. If you’re after mountain views and a mix of hiking and charming ski town vibes, this place has it all. Here are some elopement locations in Stowe!
A quieter option just outside of Stowe. Elmore State Park in Elmore, Vermont, is a hidden gem with stunning forested views, a nice lake shore, and a more laid-back atmosphere. It’s perfect for couples who want those epic Vermont fall vibes without the tourist crowds.
Vermont’s highest peak, Mount Mansfield, offers an incredible elopement backdrop. If you’re up for an adventure, hike to the summit for unbeatable sunrise or sunset views. Not feeling the hike? Take the toll road up for the same epic views without the effort. Views stretch for miles, and you’ll get that classic Vermont mountain scenery with evergreens, rocky ledges, and, if you time it right, brilliant fall foliage.
The Notch, located on Mount Mansfield, is one of the most scenic areas around Stowe. It’s packed with trails and has that romantic mountain energy that’s perfect for an intimate elopement. Plus, there are a bunch of ski resorts nearby if you want to make a full weekend out of your elopement experience.
For couples who want that classic Vermont log cabin feel, Jeffersonville is home to Sterling Ridge Log Cabin Resort, where you can elope and stay in cozy A-frame cabins or rustic log cabins. The cabins overlook the mountains, giving you that intimate, nature-focused elopement vibe. It’s perfect if you’d like a secluded, private elopement with stunning mountain views.
The Von Trapp Lodge in Stowe is famous for its connection to the “Sound of Music” family, but it’s also a killer spot for an elopement. It has a more relaxed energy than some of the busier spots in Vermont, and with the beer hall on-site, you can have a post-ceremony celebration with some local brews. Plus, the surrounding views are stunning year-round.
After your elopement, grab a beer, pizza, or even sushi at this unique spot overlooking the river. In the spring and fall, you might even catch a glimpse of black bears wandering nearby!
If you’re looking for a scenic spot that’s family-friendly and if you’d like to bring some loved ones along, the Stowe Rec Path is perfect. It features a covered bridge, gazebo, and river views, making it an easy choice for a fall elopement with family members. Fun fact—my husband and I eloped here too! Carriage rides are also available for that extra romantic touch.
Woodstock is one of the most beautiful towns in Vermont. With its classic New England charm and easy access to nature, it is perfect for couples who want an elopement that feels both quaint and adventurous.
Right next to Woodstock is Quechee Gorge, a great place for hiking and offering epic views. Afterward, treat yourselves to some local Creemee (Vermont’s famous soft serve) and explore the cute shops in town.
For my fellow equestrians or anyone who wants something a bit different, check out the Green Mountain Horse Association. The weekends host events, and this is a cool spot to catch the New England horse culture vibe. Also, if you’d like to include horses in your elopement, seriously, hit me up – I’d love to help you plan the PERFECT day!
Waterbury is the ideal spot for couples who want an elopement with a side of fantastic food and drinks. It is a particularly charming option for a fall elopement!
Located on the shores of Lake Champlain, Shelburne has a mix of stunning outdoor spaces and beautiful historic architecture. Shelburne Farms is hands down one of my favorite places for couples sessions, and it’s equally epic for an elopement. With views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains, the setting is classic Vermont. The 1800s Victorian inn on the property has gothic Bridgerton vibes, with a beautiful garden and rolling meadows perfect for a romantic ceremony. It’s also really easy to get around, which can be a bonus if you want dreamy photos without too much effort!
If you’re into skiing or just love the vibe of a ski town, Killington is another epic spot for an elopement. With mountain views, cozy cabins, super scenic gondola rides, and plenty of winter (or summer!) activities, it’s a great place to turn your elopement into a whole getaway minimoon!
This park is home to some seriously romantic waterfalls. It’s an easy hike, making it accessible for couples who want the beauty without the sweat. The afternoon is my favorite time for photos when the light filters through the forest just right! It’s especially good in summer when the foliage is lush and green. Fall also offers a stunning contrast with bright foliage and cooler temps, making it an ideal spot for a romantic, quiet ceremony.
Located in Bristol, Vermont, Bristol Falls also known as Bartlett Falls, is a gorgeous spot if you love water. It has waterfalls, cool rocks for photos, and even a spot for a post-ceremony swim if you’re down for it. It’s a magical, tucked-away spot for an intimate elopement.
If you’re flying into Vermont, chances are you’ll land in Burlington. It’s also an awesome town to spend time in before or after your elopement. I recommend checking out Church Street for a nice evening walk filled with local shops and restaurants. Burlington’s laid-back, artsy vibe makes it a perfect starting or ending point for your Vermont elopement adventure.
I hope that this blog will help you find the perfect location for your Vermont elopement! And if you’re looking for someone to help you create your dream day and document it, while we’re at it, I’d LOVE to help!
